West Bromwich Voices (1940s and 1950s) is a new audio CD which  contains a collection of the memories of 11 local people from the Black Country town and district of West Bromwich.

The project was devised and directed by local historian Anne Wilkins who is the author of West Bromwich Town Hall. Anne brought together the group for a trip down Memory Lane which was recorded and edited by a Birmingham based oral history

production team called Talking History.

The CD is entertaining, evocative and absorbing, with some fantastic stories recalled from over 60 years ago. How different the world was back then — younger generations don’t know the half of it!

The project was funded by the Scarman Trust and is a must for any local history archive but also makes marvellous listening for anyone who loves the natural flow of the human voice, which in this case has that jovial West Brom lilt that we know and love.
